You can tap into the custom builder to set up custom automations for your team! As one of monday.com’s newest features, the custom builder allows you to create automation combinations tailored to your team's needs and make them fit perfectly into your workflow.
The custom builder is in a central location of your account. You can build automations for multiple boards in one location — even within one workflow — simplifying the workflow creation process drastically. With its easy-to-use drag and drop functionality, users find it very easy to navigate and develop complex workflows.
You can also sync your existing tools with the custom builder by leveraging monday.com’s endless integrations. Here is a quick preview of what it looks like in monday.com:
The custom builder is helpful when you need to build a complex automation with several steps, vs the traditional automation builder, which is intended for simple automations with a few steps. There are even more triggers available that you cannot use in the traditional automation builder, like taking action when a new user joins the account.
Every custom automation template has a trigger, a condition, and an action (or multiple actions). Here’s an example: "When a status changes to something, delete the item."
In this case, the trigger is "When a status changes."
The condition is "to something" because the trigger is conditional upon what you select for "something."
Lastly, the action is "delete the item."
Each time an item is deleted, one action is used. If you were to trigger this template three times, three items would be deleted and that would count as three actions used.
In true monday.com fashion, the custom workflow builder takes customization to the next level by allowing you to add conditions to your workflows! Conditions enable you to create more flexible workflows. You can incorporate a condition at any point within your workflow, and you can even create conditions within conditions.
When you add a condition, you have three options -- to use the status, person, or item value as a condition:
At this point, you can set up the workflow to operate from when the condition is met or if the condition is not met. After you set up your conditions, you will this view in your workflow builder:
